It’s a wildflower-filled paradise with accessible trails, gondola rides, wildlife viewing, and relaxing day trips that are spoonie- and wheelchair-friendly. Yes, I said wheelchair-accessible hiking trails! If you’re looking for activities for summer, you’ve come to the right place.

So, here it is: my guide to things to do in Jackson Hole in the summer, with options for every energy level and accessibility need. It includes all the best summer activities, so you’re sure to have an amazing experience. No need to bike or hike if you don’t want to.

5 Days in Jackson Hole summer Things to do in Jackson Hole this weekend

🌿 1. Take the Aerial Tram or Gondola for Big Views

  • Why it’s great: You get the view without the altitude grind.
  • Accessibility: The Jackson Hole Aerial Tram and the Bridger Gondola both accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids. Just roll in, ride up, and enjoy the panoramic views of the Tetons.

The views are truly spectacular. And even in summer, there was a fair amount of snow up on the mountaintops, making it picturesque. I took the cool video below showing the trip down the mountain and back into the valley.

I will caution that the elevation may be problematic for some. I definitely noticed it was more difficult to catch my breath while walking at the top of the mountain. Those with asthma and other respiratory conditions should exercise caution, as they will be at a 10,450-foot elevation. But if you can tolerate it, the views are out-of-this-world amazing.

Pro tip: Bring a jacket. Even in the Jackson, Wyoming summer, it’s chilly up there.

🚗 2. Wildlife Safari by Car (or Accessible Tour)

  • Why it’s great: This is peak Yellowstone-adjacent magic: bison, moose, elk, and maybe even bears — all from the comfort of your seat.
  • Accessibility: Companies like EcoTour Adventures offer accessible vans for wildlife tours with knowledgeable, patient guides.

We made the day trip to Yellowstone Bear World in Idaho to see grizzly and brown bears up close from the comfort of our car. The trip takes about 2 hours from Jackson Hole. The park also has Rocky Mountain Elk, Bison, White-tail Deer, Mule Deer, and Rocky Mountain Goats. But let’s face it, you’ll want to come for the bears. Just make sure you keep your windows up at all times. Bear World is open May through October from 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week.

Pro tip: Early morning or sunset is best. Also: don’t pet the moose and steer clear of the bison. They are known to attack tourists.

🛶 3. Explore Grand Teton National Park — The Accessible Way

  • Why it’s great: It’s one of the most beautiful national parks in the U.S., and you don’t have to hike 10 miles to see it.
  • Accessibility: Try the Jenny Lake Overlook (flat paved area with epic views), or the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center, which has an ADA hiking trail and indoor exhibits.

A lot of people will blow past Grand Teton National Park and fly like an arrow to the much larger Yellowstone National Park, but I’m telling you, Grand Teton is not to be missed. You have to pass through it to get to Yellowstone, so you might as well take your time and enjoy. With an ADA trail, multiple scenic overlooks, and plenty of wildlife, it’s a great way to spend a day and one of the best things to do in Wyoming. It’s easy to drive through and see most of the sites.

I was here during Memorial Day, and there were plenty of outdoor concerts, a parade, and other exciting downtown events to keep us busy. The shops are particularly cute, and you can find a bevy of adorable souvenirs to remember your trip. Make sure you include plenty of time in the town square in your Jackson Hole summer itinerary.

Bonus: Grab a scoop from Moo’s Gourmet Ice Cream and call it a successful afternoon.

🌺 5. Visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art

  • Why it’s great: It’s air-conditioned, gorgeous, and has sweeping views of the National Elk Refuge right from the terrace.
  • Accessibility: Fully wheelchair accessible with elevators, accessible restrooms, and quiet areas to rest.

If you’re looking for free things to do in Jackson Hole, there’s also a large outdoor area with amazing animal sculptures that complement the exquisite scenery. The only downside was that some of the sculptures are on the hillside and not wheelchair accessible. I had to send my fiancé down the steps to get photos of the sculptures up close. But that only applies to 2-3 of the exhibits. The rest can easily be viewed from the flat, paved sidewalks or inside the comfy, air-conditioned museum. This is easily one of the best things to do in Jackson, Wyoming.

Bonus: Great on a hot or high-pain day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Visiting Jackson Hole in Summer

Is Jackson Hole worth visiting in the summer?

Absolutely. Summer is one of the best times to visit Jackson Hole for scenic drives, wildlife watching, lake cruises, accessible viewpoints, outdoor dining, and exploring Grand Teton National Park. You can enjoy plenty of dramatic mountain scenery without becoming one with a strenuous hiking trail.

What are the best things to do in Jackson Hole in summer?

Popular summer activities include exploring Grand Teton National Park, visiting Jenny Lake, taking a scenic tram or gondola ride, wildlife watching, strolling around Jackson Town Square, driving to Signal Mountain, and visiting the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Scenic drives and overlooks make it possible to experience the Tetons even if hiking is not an option.

When is the best time to visit Jackson Hole in summer?

July and August generally provide the warmest weather and the greatest number of open attractions. June can be quieter, but snow may remain on higher-elevation trails. September offers cooler weather and fewer crowds, although some seasonal tours and facilities begin reducing their hours.

How many days do you need in Jackson Hole?

Three to five days gives you enough time to explore Jackson, Teton Village, and Grand Teton National Park without cramming every activity into one exhausting mountain marathon. Travelers who need additional rest or recovery time may want to stay for five to seven days.

What is the difference between Jackson and Jackson Hole?

Jackson is the main town, while Jackson Hole is the name of the surrounding valley. Teton Village, Grand Teton National Park, Wilson, and several smaller communities are all located within Jackson Hole.

Do you need a car in Jackson Hole?

A car is highly recommended, especially if you plan to explore Grand Teton National Park. Public transportation connects some parts of Jackson and Teton Village, but it does not provide convenient access to every overlook, trailhead, or wildlife-viewing area. Having your own vehicle also makes it easier to rest, carry mobility equipment, and change plans when your energy decides it has other ideas.

Is Jackson Hole wheelchair accessible?

Some parts of Jackson Hole are wheelchair accessible, but accessibility varies considerably. Jackson Town Square, many shops and restaurants, major visitor centers, and several scenic overlooks offer step-free access. However, gravel, uneven pavement, steep grades, and limited accessible parking can create barriers. Always contact individual attractions and tour operators before visiting.

Is Grand Teton National Park wheelchair accessible?

Grand Teton National Park has accessible visitor centers, restrooms, parking spaces, overlooks, picnic areas, and portions of paved pathways. Accessibility still varies by location, so consult the National Park Service’s Grand Teton accessibility information and mobility-access guide before your trip.

What are the best accessible outdoor activities near Jackson Hole?

Good options include driving the park’s scenic roads, visiting accessible overlooks, exploring the Jenny Lake developed area, taking in the view from Jackson Lake Lodge, and using portions of the paved multi-use pathway. The pathway runs between Jackson and South Jenny Lake, although distances, grades, weather, and wildlife closures should all be considered.

Is Jenny Lake wheelchair accessible?

The developed Jenny Lake area has designated accessible parking, restrooms, and a paved 0.35-mile Discovery Trail providing wheelchair access to the lakeshore. Parking fills quickly during summer, so arrive early and review the park’s Jenny Lake visitor information before setting out.

Can you enjoy Grand Teton National Park without hiking?

Yes. Some of the park’s best views can be enjoyed from scenic roads, roadside overlooks, visitor centers, picnic areas, and lodge terraces. Oxbow Bend, Snake River Overlook, Jackson Lake Dam, and Signal Mountain are popular options for travelers who cannot or do not want to hike.

Do you need a reservation to enter Grand Teton National Park?

Grand Teton National Park does not currently require timed-entry or vehicle reservations, although an entrance pass is required. Lodging, campgrounds, cruises, and some tours should be reserved in advance. Always check the park’s current permit and reservation information, as policies can change.

How can you avoid summer crowds in Jackson Hole?

Visit popular attractions early in the morning or later in the afternoon, avoid holiday weekends when possible, and allow extra time for traffic and parking. Jenny Lake becomes particularly busy, and accessible parking spaces can fill quickly. Building flexibility into your schedule is far more enjoyable than treating vacation like a competitive sport.

What is the weather like in Jackson Hole during summer?

Summer days can be warm, but nights are often chilly. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and rain or even snow is possible at higher elevations. Pack layers, rain protection, sunscreen, water, and a hat. The National Park Service recommends preparing for rapidly changing Grand Teton weather.

Should travelers with chronic illnesses be concerned about the altitude?

Jackson Hole sits at a high elevation, and many mountain attractions are considerably higher. Altitude can contribute to headaches, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, and sleep problems. Hydrate, limit alcohol, pace yourself, and schedule a lighter first day. If symptoms worsen, descend and seek medical help. The National Park Service provides additional altitude-sickness guidance.

Is the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram wheelchair accessible?

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers adaptive summer sightseeing, but needs vary by wheelchair, mobility device, and required assistance. Contact the resort before purchasing tickets and provide advance notice for accommodations. Review its accessibility information and adaptive summer activities for current details. Remember that mountaintop paths may be steep or uneven even when the ride itself can accommodate you.

Are Snake River rafting and float trips accessible?

Accessibility depends on the operator, launch location, water conditions, and your transfer needs. Some scenic float trips are gentler than whitewater excursions, but boarding may involve steps, uneven riverbanks, or transferring into the raft. Ask the operator for exact boarding details rather than accepting a vague “we’re accessible” and discovering that their definition involves a gravel slope and a heroic leap.

Where can you go wildlife watching with limited mobility?

Oxbow Bend, Willow Flats, Moose-Wilson Road, and several roadside pullouts offer opportunities to spot wildlife from or near your vehicle. A guided wildlife tour may also work well if the operator can accommodate your mobility device and transfer requirements.

How close can you get to wildlife in Grand Teton National Park?

Remain at least 100 yards from bears and wolves and at least 25 yards from all other wildlife. Use binoculars or a zoom lens instead of approaching animals. Review the park’s official wildlife-safety guidelines before visiting.

What can you do in Jackson Hole on a rainy or low-energy day?

Visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art, browse the shops around Jackson Town Square, enjoy a leisurely meal, or take a scenic drive if road conditions are safe. The museum has automatic entrance doors, an elevator, accessible galleries, and tactile features for blind and low-vision visitors. Check its current accessibility information before visiting.

Can you take a day trip from Jackson Hole to Yellowstone?

Yes, but it makes for a very long day. Driving times increase considerably once you include traffic, wildlife delays, and stops inside Yellowstone. Travelers with chronic pain, fatigue, or limited stamina may find an overnight stay near Yellowstone more manageable than attempting the entire trip in one day.

What is a good low-energy day in Jackson Hole?

Start with a relaxed breakfast in Jackson, drive through Grand Teton National Park, stop at one or two accessible overlooks, have lunch with a mountain view, and return to your hotel for a rest. If you still have energy later, visit Town Square or take a gentle sunset drive. One memorable outing is better than six activities followed by an involuntary date with your hotel mattress.

Accessibility can change because of construction, weather, maintenance, or seasonal closures. Confirm current conditions directly with each attraction before traveling.
